Snowcaving @ Mt Hood

A number of Alameda young men joined the Cindrich's from the Rocky Butte ward for a snowcaving excursion to Mt Hood.  Unlike last year when the weather was snowy and windy, it was a clear, beautiful night up on Mt Hood.  There were a total of 13 people that came (group picture coming soon) but here are some pictures from the overnight trip in the snow.  A special thanks to Stephen Korn for serving as transport up to the mountain on short notice and Jason Rennaker for agreeing to also transport and spend the night in the snow.

Believe it or not, 35 degrees inside the snow cave was actually pretty comfortable.

After varying degrees of sleep (tending on the side of cold and semi-sleepless), the morning on Mt Hood was clear and bright once the sun came up.

Once up, the campers managed to work on some breakfast.  Here, Dorsey and Noah Cindrich warm up water for some oatmeal.

Jason Rennaker, who ended up serving as adult supervision to the entire group, readies his stove to pass around hot chocolate to pretty much anyone who could find a cup or container to hold it.

Before heading home, the boys made good use of an icy slope and whatever they could find to slide down.  Tiegue on a shovel (the handle is in front of Tiegue):

Excepting the marginal sleeping at night, a very nice overnight trip at Hood.
